To prepare for disasters

15. Participating in First Aid Training

First aid training is a program that teaches participants essential knowledge and skills for first aid and lifesaving. The Japanese Red Cross Society or Japanese Fire Stations offer training for the general public.

The training covers chest compressions and artificial respiration, AED usage, techniques for stopping bleeding and bandaging, immobilizing fractures, transportation methods, and important considerations in disaster situations.

Besides first aid training, the Japanese Red Cross also offers the following courses: the Water Safety Course, which covers basic swimming skills, self-preservation techniques, and first aid knowledge and know-how to protect lives in water-related accidents; the Snow Safety Course, which teaches how to safely enjoy snow, in addition to methods to prevent accidents and conduct rescues in snow-covered areas such as ski resorts; the Child Safety Course, which provides knowledge and techniques for preventing and handling accidents involving children, as well as caring for those with fevers and illnesses, to help raise children with care; and the Healthy Life Course, which focuses on health promotion for a healthy old age, as well as techniques to help the elderly live independently and support the local community. These are primarily run by volunteers at the prefectural branches of the Japanese Red Cross and are available across the country. Recently, the Japanese Red Cross has also started offering online courses and programs for foreigners. Volunteer involvement is becoming increasingly essential in the steady promotion of first aid to a diverse range of people.
