To strengthen foundations for humanitarian activities

26. Becoming a Nurse for the Red Cross

Becoming a Red Cross nurse means playing an active role both in Japan and internationally as a part of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

The Japanese Red Cross Society’s nursing education is founded on the humanitarian principles of the Red Cross, with a strong emphasis on International Humanitarian Law and disaster nursing. Nurses employed at Japanese Red Cross Hospitals may be dispatched as part of medical teams for disaster relief efforts and, with certain additional training, may also have the opportunity to participate in overseas relief missions as international staff members. In this way, Red Cross nurses are an essential part of the organization’s mission to “protect people’s lives, health, and dignity” in a wide range of situations, both in Japan and abroad. It is a highly meaningful and rewarding profession.
