To pass on to future generations

27. Expanding the Circle of Humanitarian Aid

This initiative aims to broaden participation in Red Cross activities, primarily through the Junior Red Cross (JRC) school education program, which engages the younger generation.

The JRC operates in kindergartens, nursery schools, elementary/junior high/high schools, and special needs schools, with instructors and student members. It is guided by the attitude goals of “Notice, Think, and Act.”

JRC activities are based on the three practical goals of “health and safety,” “volunteer service,” and “international understanding and goodwill.” Each school has the flexibility to design and implement activities suited to its community and circumstances. As a result, a wide variety of initiatives take place across different regions, including: volunteer activities at Red Cross hospitals and blood donation centers; environmental beautification; disaster preparedness training; fundraising efforts; and international exchange and welfare experiences. In carrying out these activities, various resources are utilized, such as teaching materials and know-how accumulated over the JRC’s more than 100-year history, the involvement of Red Cross staff and volunteers, and exchanges through the global Red Cross network. By actively participating in these initiatives themselves, children will help expand the circle of humanitarian aid.
