International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement Pavilion will hold World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day on May 8 as a Special Day event for the Osaka-Kansai Expo.

On this day, representatives of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, Red Cross workers and volunteers from Osaka and other parts of Japan, as well as the general public will gather to remind and spread the importance of Red Cross activities.

For the official event performance, the “Waseda Osaka High School Wind Band” from Osaka Prefecture, a member school of the Junior Red Cross, will be invited to perform a variety of genres of music with a wind brass band and chorus.

A legend who was involved in the Red Cross Pavilion by the Spanish Red Cross at the 1992 Seville Expo and is now serving as a representative of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement will visit Japan and give a greeting to celebrate the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day.

Please enjoy a variety of musical genres performed by the Wind Band class of Waseda Osaka High School, a Junior Red Cross member school that practices the spirit of the Red Cross through school education. The Wind Band, with the motto "Dynamic and Moving with Music," is a wind orchestra class of about 70 members who learn through music and grow as individuals, performing over 40 times a year. This time, they will present songs such as the Expo theme song "Kono Chikyuu no Tsuzuki wo," musical pieces from "Mary Poppins" and "Do-Re-Mi," "Shiawase wo Hakoberu you ni," which is said to be the second city song of Kobe related to the 30th anniversary of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, and classical pieces like "Ode to Joy."

The "Waseda Osaka High School Wind Band" is a wind music class at a Junior Red Cross member school that practices the spirit of the Red Cross through school education. The origin of the "Wind Band" dates back to the "Hankyu Boys' Music Corps" founded in 1957, which has a history of performing at the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1970 Osaka Expo. Over the years, it has captured the hearts of many audiences and has been highly regarded as a top-class band in the nation.
